Galaxy Foamposite Release Causes Riot In Florida Mall [Video]
» by D.L. Chandler February 24, 2012, 9:58am
It appears that the nation's sneakerheads have their priorities in order once again, as Nike's latest high-end shoe, the Air Foamposite One 'Galaxy,' caused a riot last night (Feb. 23rd) just before the sneaker's official release. My Fox Orlando reported that just before midnight, gatherers waiting outside of Florida Mall's Foot Locker House Of Hoops store began fighting in line.
The fracas erupted to such a level that Florida police in riot gear and on horseback were called to the scene. According to the report, police began moving in around 9:45 p.m. as the crowd began acting up. From there, people fled the scene as police moved in to clear the property, reportedly numbering into the hundreds. Although authorities say none were harmed, two people were arrested for trespassing, apparently defiant about losing their place in line over the coveted kicks.
"It's unfortunate it happened over a shoe event, but we were proactive in our response and lucky it ended well," said Ginette Rodriguez of the Orange County Sheriff's Office.
With the 2012 NBA All-Star Weekend festivities taking place in Orlando, Foot Locker was hoping to release the shoe at the height of the celebrated event. The stores have issued a statement, stating they will be cancelling the release of the shoe across several of its stores.
In comparison, a New York campout for the sneakers has been a much milder event, so reported the NY Daily News earlier in the week. Imagine that.

(Reuters) - Nike Inc will start selling Jeremy Lin-themed shoes this weekend, cashing in on the New York Knick point guard's recent rise to worldwide fame.
Priced at $130, the shoes will be available on Nike's website.
Nike said it will launch the Nike Zoom Hyperfuse Low basketball shoes, built especially for Lin, this weekend in Orlando, Florida, where the NBA is holding its All-Star festivities.
"It's not a signature line but a version of the shoe that he's been wearing this season," the company told Reuters.
Lin, the NBA's first Chinese-American player and a Harvard graduate, has rocketed from obscurity to global celebrity in just 12 starts for the Knicks.
The world's biggest sporting goods company, headquartered in Beaverton, Oregon, signed Lin in 2010, and launched its "Linsanity" line of clothes at Foot Locker Inc stores last week.

Celebrate Fat Tuesday With New Orleans Special
Let's kick off the party with the Creole Julep, a spin on the traditional Mint Julep. This rum-based Julep was created by Maksym Pazuniak, a mixologist at Rambla and Cure in New Orleans. It's made with Clement Creole Shrubb, a rum-based orange liqueur from Martinique, which gives the drink a peppery pop.
The Creole Julep

2 1/4 oz. Cruzan Single Barrel Estate Rum
1/2 oz. Clement Creole Shrubb

The three-story condominium belonging to Detroit City Council president Charles Pugh …
(Reuters) - The Big Three automakers may be on the rebound but the original Motor City, Detroit, is still battling to turn the tide of decline. One of the people leading the fight is Charles Pugh.
An ex-television broadcaster known for a swanky wardrobe and outspoken presence, he was solidly voted in as president of Detroit's city council two years ago, carrying a mandate to clean up corruption and undo decades of mismanagement. But battles over strip-club legislation, water bills and inflated budgets defined his early days in office.
"We were the public piƱata," he recalls. "I wanted to quit."
Two years later, the auto industry's Big Three -- General Motors, Chrysler and Ford -- have moved on from the worst of the financial crisis, but the city has fallen further into the mire. With $350 million in annual retiree pension and health-care costs and a shortage of cash, Michigan state officials are considering installing an emergency manager to run the finances of the state's largest city.
Under the worst-case scenario, Pugh's city council -- which costs about $1 million per month to operate, or more than the cost of the public works department -- could be stripped of its power to approve contracts, scrutinize budgets and handle zoning issues.
Pugh, a Democrat who counts Detroit singer Aretha Franklin among his friends, has his own set of problems.
After taking a two-thirds pay cut to join government, he shelved his cable TV service, started packing his lunch and paired back cell service. It wasn't enough -- his tony midtown Detroit condo is headed back to the bank via foreclosure or short sale.
"I can no longer afford it," he said. "Going through this whole fiscal crisis with the city, I learned you can't live at your means or just above. You have to live below."

Beyonce...a Month after Giving birth...Smokin'!!!
If you were getting concerned that we’d wouldn’t see Beyonce again until after Blue Ivy Carter‘s graduation from Vassar, you were wrong. The superstar singer donned a curve-hugging dress to party with her husband last night, proving that your body can look absolutely banging a mere month after you’ve given birth.
Beyonce might not have made it to her husband’s charity concert benefiting the United Way and the Shawn Carter Scholarship Foundation at Carnegie Hall last night, but she did attend the after party at the 40/40 Club. B showed up to the fete wearing a second-skin red dress, an Alexander McQueen skull clutch, embroidered Christian Louboutin platforms and a shade of blue nail polish that can only be described as electric — in tribute, no doubt, to Blue Ivy’s already charming personality. In short, she looks amazing and deserves snaps for taking the time to get all dolled up when everyone would have given her a pass for just hanging out at home with her daughter.
